Mary's Apple Crisp

Apples in Basket.jpg
Apple Crisp.jpg

This is my favorite apple dish and came from my friend, Mary, who was grandmother to my children.  She gave me her best recipes over our forty year friendship.

Her apple crisp is so good that I quit ordering it in restaurants because their apples are too crunchy and the flavor is nowhere near this simple mix.  Mary is gone now and I miss her.  And think of her every time I tie on an apron.

This is not cooking for one.  But living alone you need friends who will come whether you feed them or not.  So, give them a treat.

Place in a shallow 8 x 8 baking dish:  4 cups sliced apples.

Sprinkle with:  1/4 cup water, 1 t. cinnamon, 1/2 t. salt.

Work together until crumbly: 3/4 cups flour, 1 cup sugar,

1/3 cup butter, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.

Spread crumb mixture over the apples.  Bake uncovered          about 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream and get

     ready for total bliss.
